The Vermont trademark search is an online database that contains all active and expired trademarks registered in the state. Vermont law only permits the registration of trademarks, which identify products, and not service marks, which identify services.[1]
Trademarks are effective for 10 years once registered with the Secretary of State and can be renewed for 10-year periods thereafter as long as the renewal is filed within one year of the expiration date.[2]
Trademark Search
1. Navigate to the Trademark Search Platform
2. Select Search Options
Trademarks can be found by providing the Owner’s Name, the Record Number (i.e., registration number), or the Trademark Description. When searching by owner or description, there are three additional search options that can be selected: Starts With, Contains, or Exact Match.
3. Execute Search
If the registration number or owner name isn’t known, searching by mark description is easiest. Select Trademark Description, enter a keyword into the field, toggle on Contains to get a list of all trademarks with that keyword, and click Search.
4. Look Through List of Trademarks
The resulting page will list all trademarks that contain the provided description keyword, including record number, owner type, owner name, registration and expiration dates, and current status.
5. Explore Additional Details
The record number for each trademark can be selected (see image) to view more details about that specific mark, including:
- Mark number
- Adoption date
- Status
- Trademark image
- Registration date
- Expiration date
- Mark description
- Mode of use
- Class code and description
- Owner name, type, and address
- Filing history
