The Nebraska corporation and business search can be used to search for trademarked entities by name or account number. This includes all entity names, trade names, trademarks, and service marks registered in the state.[1] This service allows users to verify whether a business name has already been legally taken. Trademarks are valid for 10 years in Nebraska and can be renewed.[2]
Trademark/Trade Name Search
1. Go to the “Corporation & Business Search” Webpage
To search for a trademark or trade name, first go to the Nebraska SoS webpage linked above.
2. Choose Search Type
When searching for a business name, the following options can be used:
- Name Starts With
- Name Keyword Search
- Name Sounds Like
- Name Exact Match
For this example, Name Keyword Search then Match Any Word were selected to provide a more complete list of results.
3. Search for the Name
Enter the desired name in the Name field and click Perform Search.
4. Review Search Results
After clicking Perform Search, a list of matching results will be provided. To filter the results, they can be sorted by Type and Status using the Primary Sort and Secondary Sort drop-down menus (see image).
Clicking Details in the corresponding business’s row will open a detailed breakdown of its public information.
5. View Detailed Information
Clicking Details will reveal the following trademark information:
- SOS Account Number
- Status
- Contact
- Entity Type
- Date Filed
- Expiration Date
- Next Report Due Date
- Filed Documents
- Good Standing Documents
