The Maine corporate name search allows the public to look up marks, entities, and doing business as (DBA) names by keyword or mark/charter number. In Maine, a DBA may be referred to as a trade name, assumed name, or fictitious name, depending on the entity type.
To be eligible for registration, a mark must be in use by the applicant’s business at the time of filing and meet the state’s registration criteria, which include not resembling other marks or DBAs in Maine.[1][2] Once accepted, the mark will remain registered for 10 years.[3]
Trademark Search
1. Go to the “Corporate Name Search” Page
2. Decide How to Search
Choose which mark detail to search by. The Division of Corporations allows searches using either of the following:
- A keyword from the mark name
- A charter number*
*When searching for marks, the mark number is used in place of the charter number.
3. Search for the Mark
Type the keyword or mark number into the applicable search field. If checking whether a mark name is available, use the first field for a keyword search, as highlighted in the image below.
For the broadest results, use only a single word from the mark name. For narrower results, use the exact mark name or a combination of words. Submit the query by selecting Click Here to Search.
4. Review the List of Results
All marks, DBAs, and entities that match the searched information will be listed on the results page. Scroll through the list to find the mark, then click Information Summary to view additional details.
5. Check the Information Summary
The information summary displays the following details for the selected mark:
- Mark text
- Status
- Mark number
- Filing date
- Expiration date
- Mark type
- Owner name
